Nail painting cushion

Back in August I decided to make something a little bit different on my sewing machine. After seeing people using nail painting cushions on Instagram I decided to make my own and here is the result.

I’m very new to sewing so this isn’t perfect but I’m happy with how it came out. I made it using part of an old Doctor who duvet cover!

Here is a picture of it with polish in it.Here is a picture with my hand so you can see the size of it.

I’ve found this really useful for painting my nails on the sofa (which I didn’t do before I made this) and you don’t have to worry about knocking the bottle over.

Making this involved a lot of trial and error when trying to work out how to make the compartments that hold the polish bottles and making them the right size. If I was to make another one I would use better material not an old duvet cover, I would also improve the sewing and maybe also have a third compartment for basecoat.

Grace polish- “flipping your fins”

Hope you are all having a good Friday. On Wednesday I did a blog post on one of the polishes sent to me by Emma from the new UK indie brand Grace polish and I said that I would have another one to post so here it is. If you didn’t see my last post you can click here after you’ve finished reading this one.

Flipping your fins

This polish is a gorgeous metallic green with a lighter green shimmer. It requires 3 coats to be opaque but doesn’t need a top coat as it is so shiny on its own!

This polish is stunning and has a great formula like the first polish and it dries fairly quickly to a really smooth and shinny finish. I can definitely see myself wearing this a lot and it’s the kind of colour that looks good all year round.

I honestly can’t pick a favourite between this one and the red one as they are both so beautiful and different.

You can buy Grace polish from their Instagram page now while the website is being sorted out. Also check out her Instagram to see swatches of her other beautiful polishes.

Grace Polish- “But Daddy I love him!”

Welcome back to my blog! Today I have swatches and a review to share with you of one of the gorgeous polishes very kindly sent to me by Emma who recently started up the indie brand Grace Polish. I was going to put both polishes in one blog post but I thought they each deserved a post of their own.

“But Daddy I love him”

This is a gorgeous red polish with red and holographic glitter. I needed 2 coats for it to be opaque, it had a smooth and easy to apply formula and it dried really quickly. This swatch shows 2 coats with topcoat. The first 2 pictures are with a flash and the last is without.

I love this polish it’s a gorgeous colour and with the added sparkle it makes it perfect! This is the perfect colour for autumn and winter and I have nothing like it in my collection. I will definitely be wearing it for the next few days as I don’t want to take it off.

Keep an eye out on my blog and my  Instagram page in a few days to see the other polish from Grace polish which I can’t wait to wear. Also check out Grace polish’s Instagram to see photos of her other polishes.

Emma is currently working on her website but her polishes are currently available to buy on her Instagram page (Here)

Sparklea Fantastic beasts duo

Today I’m writing a post on a duo I bought a couple of months ago from Sparklea nail polish which is a UK indie brand based in London and run by Lea. This duo is based off the film “Fantastic beasts and where to find them” . These polishes are both beautiful linear holographics.

“We call them muggles”

The first polish in this duo is a gorgeous dark blue linear holographic. This took 2 coats to be fully opaque and it dried very fast.  The first 2 pictures show the polish with a flash and the last shows it in natural light.

Witches live among us”

The other polish in this duo is a gorgeous burgundy. It had the same formula as the first polish and also applied in 2 coats and dried fast. Again the first 2 pictures are taken with flash and the last one is I natural light.

I love this duo they look stunning and apply really nicely. Its so hard to pick a favourite but I think it might be “muggles live among us”. I’m not sure if these will be available again as they are sold out and I think they may have been limited addition. However you can find lots of other gorgeous polishes on Lea’s Website:  when she reopens on the 29th of September

Primark neon trio reveiw

Today I thought I would do a blog post and review of the primark trio I bought  couple of months ago. I don’t know if this collection is still available as primark are always bringing out new collections. I didn’t use a white base for any of these swatches as the polishes were bright on their own. As with most neons they dry to a semi-matte finish however I used a top coat to make them shinny.

The first swatch I have is my personal favourite. It has a great formula and applies smoothly. On shorter nails this could be a one coater however I needed 2-3 coats. I didn’t even need a white base for this.

This is a gorgeous neon orange which also had a great formula. This polish took 2 coats to be fully opaque.

Lastly is the pink one which is much brighter in person than in the picture. This one took 3 coats however I probably could have only needed 2 if I had done thicker coats.

Nail art

I though I would create some simple nail art with these so I decided to go with a gradient from orange to pink to purple. I quite like how these came out.

I love this collection they are great quality and good value for money as it was £2 for the 3. My only criticism is the brush shape, the brushes are square at the end which makes them a bit difficult to apply near the cuticles however this isn’t much of an issue and I still managed to apply them neatly.

Thank you for reading, let me know which was your favourite in the comments.

Confessions of a nail polish addict Tag

Today I’m going to be doing the confessions of a nail polish addict tag. I’ve seen this tag going round on youtube and as I’m definitely a nail polish addict I though I would give it a go. There are 12 nail related questions in this tag so I hope you enjoy reading it and maybe even give it a go yourself if you haven’t already.

1.What colour are you wearing right now?

I’m currently wearing “Deep sea diving” by Princess nail lacquer which is a gorgeous blue holo.

2.What is your favourite nail brand?

This is really difficult as I love so many different brands but my favourite would have to be either Models own or Princess nail lacquer

3.What nail shape do you wear?

I wear my nails in an almond shape as you can see below. This is the nail shape I think suits me the most but it is also my favourite nail shape.

4.What’s your go to red, pink and neutral nail polish?

My go to red is probably “5 apples tall” by OPI as it is a gorgeous bright red which has a great formula too. My go to pink is from OPI too, its called “let’s be friends” and its a very pale pink. I don’t really have a go to neutral as I don’t wear neutrals very often.

5.Short or long nails?

Definitely long nails on me.

6.What nail polish colours are on your nail wishlist?

I have a few on my wishlist but the main ones I want are “Sunkissed” by Barry m, a bright yellow and loads of indie polishes.

7.When do you paint your nails, morning, afternoon or evening?

I paint my nails at any time of day but I would say mainly afternoons.

8.What’s your top nail tip you swear by?

Don’t use your nails as tools and always wear base coat

9.What nail polish do you regret buying?

I don’t think I have any that I regret buying

10.Neon or pastel? Brights or darks?

I love both but I slightly prefer pastel even though I own more neons. Darks overs brights which I wouldn’t have said a few years ago as I used to hate darks.

11. What’s your favourite colour right now, you wear all the time?

Blue which is always my favourite and always my most worn colour.

12. What is one brand you want to try but haven’t yet?

I would love to try a lot more UK indie brands.

Thank you for reading this post and I tag anyone that wants to give it a go.

July 2017 Nail art collabs

This month I took part in 3 nail art collabs on my Instagram @myrealnails so I thought I would do a blog post about them.

The first one I took part in was on the 2nd of July and it was a cancer awareness collab hosted by Chloe – @tippedoffnails

126  people took part in this collab which is the biggest collab I’ve ever taken part in. For this one we could use any colour and it had to contain a cancer ribbon.

For my contribution I used W7 “pink feathers” which is the pink glitter and I used OPI “let’s be friends!” which is the pale pink base for the accent nail.

The second collab I took part in which was on the 11th of July was hosted by Teju @amritkarteju and Dani @creatively_danielle which was a tribute to very talented nail artist called Ane Li who sadly past on the 11th of July 2016. For this collab we had to recreate one of Ane Li’s nail art designs.

I found it really hard to decide which design of hers to recreate as she created so many gorgeous nail art designs. For this I used models own “Asscher blue”, Primark “optic” and Sally Hansen “Buffalo nickel”. I created this design using striping tape and a dotting tool.

The final collab I took part in was for @thepolishlist Vicky’s birthday which was hosted by Bethany @bnailedtoperfection. The theme for this was pink as it is Vicky’s favourite colour.

I used Nails inc “Notting hill gate” for the base of this and then used OPI “Never have too mani friends” for the cat. I then decided to add Barry M’s matte top coat to finish it off.

Those are all the collabs I took part in this month. I don’t normally do much nail art but I really enjoyed doing all of these so I’m hoping to start doing nail art more often.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post.
